Five years ago Lion Hudson (a UK based publisher) was approached by the United Bible Societies with the need for an illustrated re-telling of the Bible narrative that was suitable for a wide age range including adults, culturally appropriate for non Western readers and which could be printed at a price that made it affordable for a mass market in the two thirds world with minimum or no subsidy. The organisations settled on a long-standing and successful title - The Lion Children's Bible - as the book that best met this requirement. At an early stage certain Bible translation agencies were offered the chance to participate in this project and a number of teams have been able to do so.

The Lion Children's Bible is a 256 page set of 74 stories from both Old and New Testament. It has full colour illustrations throughout.

Based on combined print runs of between 60,000 and 100,000 copies the current price at the printer for the Lion Children's Bible is £0.87 (approx $1.60 plus freight and language change fee)

Since the project began over 500,000 books have been printed and distributed in dozens of the countries and languages.
