Open the Book
Bible Storytelling in Primary Schools

“Today, so many children could miss out on the great classic stories from the Bible – Noah, Daniel and the life of Jesus could be closed chapters if youngsters don’t get an opportunity to engage with the Bible.”

Open the Book is a project which offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible, from a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories during assemblies/acts of Collective Worship. Each presentation takes around 10–15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional year of material based on Christian Values for schools.

The volunteers use drama, mime, props, costume – and even the children and staff themselves – to present the Bible stories in lively and informative ways.

Open the Book began in 1999 and since then thousands of school children have discovered Bible stories, during assembly and collective worship.
