This article shows how music videos in local languages can support Scripture engagement. Drawing on experience in Mamara-speaking villages in Mali, Faantoni dit Souléhimana Traoré explains how music, images and community participation can help communicate the Bible’s message in a familiar and meaningful way.
Using the local language allows the message to connect with people’s identity and emotions. Filming in the village, with traditional clothing, instruments, rhythms and everyday settings, also gives the videos a strong sense of cultural authenticity and helps the community recognise the production as its own.
The article offers practical guidance for producing similar videos. It covers community involvement, planning, rehearsals, sound recording, filming, editing and distribution. It also shows that good results can be achieved with modest equipment and a small technical team, provided there is careful preparation and close cooperation with local participants.
The videos were shared through YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook and community screenings. The experience shows how culturally appropriate media can help people understand the Bible message, strengthen faith, value their language and take an active part in sharing Scripture-based resources within their community.
