The complete annual State of the Bible report for 2025 has been published by the American Bible Society.

Here are some of the highlights in this year’s report:

  1. After three down years, Scripture Engagement and Bible Use are up. Millennials and men fuel much of that increase.
  2. The U.S. leads the secular West in Bible Use. Americans more likely to see its relevance and want to learn more.
  3. Americans flourishing again after COVID plunge. Numbers surpass pre-pandemic levels.
  4. Flourishing increases with frequency of Bible Use. Bible Study Groups also prove helpful.
  5. Two-thirds of Bible Users access it digitally. Bible Engagement is now fully multimedia.
  6. Church Engagement improves well-being. Stress, loneliness drop with greater church connections.
  7. Gen Z men have weakest sense of identity. Far outpaced by Gen Z women.
  8. Practice of faith linked to stronger identity. Casuals, Nominals, Nones fall short of Practicing Christians.
  9. Multi-year slide in pro-social attitudes 2022–25. Movable Middle scores lowest.
  10. Three times as many trust the Bible as are skeptical. ‘Nones’ remain deeply suspicious.
